Vittorio, affectionately known as \u201cVit\u201d to his friends. He is the owner and manager of Seniors Helping Seniors Medway. We asked him to share his story, and here\u2019s what he would like you to know about his background, passions, and commitment to providing exceptional home care.<\/p>\n
Early Life and Education<\/strong><\/p>\n Raised in St Helens, Merseyside in the 70\u2019s as the second youngest of five siblings in a traditional Italian family originally from Napoli. His upbringing was a mix of traditional Roman Catholic values and the lively spirit of Italian culture. He attended his local secondary school achieving a GCSE level education then working in various role, before deciding on Policing and going on to graduate from his Police Training college in the early 2000s.<\/p>\n Family<\/strong><\/p>\n Vittorio is incredibly proud of his children. Robbie has graduated from the University of Liverpool University with a psychology degree and is working hard helping people in the community and is about to start his masters. Lauren has completed her A Levels and is currently doing really well at The University of Bristol in the first year of an Economics degree.<\/p>\n Career<\/strong><\/p>\n In 1999, Vittorio moved to Medway to help his previous employer set up a new manufacturing site on Medway City Estate, Rochester. What was meant to be a short stint turned into a long-term commitment and has now called Medway home for 25 years!\u00a0\u00a0In 2000s he changed tact and embarked on a career in law enforcement, he graduated from Police Training College and then dedicated 25 years to public service, retiring in 2024.<\/p>\n Growing up, money was tight, as it was for many families living in old industrial towns during the 70’s. His father worked at Pilkington\u2019s for 33 years, a period marked by union strikes that exacerbated the family\u2019s financial struggles. Despite these challenges, Vittorio\u2019s childhood was rich with Italian cultural influences and strong family values. Annual trips to Italy were a cherished tradition, alternating between siblings each year. One of the highlights of his childhood was crushing grapes with his father to help produce the family\u2019s fine Italian wines, a tradition that made all five siblings popular amongst friends.<\/p>\n His mother worked on a farm, and later in a council led adult day care center; Vittorio has fond memories of helping his mother when she worked in the fields. This experience instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family and community.<\/p>\n Keen on most sports he was also an ok footballer winning awards in primary school and later playing rugby union well into his thirties.<\/p>\n As a long-suffering Everton FC supporter, he knows the true meaning of patience and loyalty\u2014traits that have served him well both on and off the field.<\/p>\n Vittorio\u2019s decision to start a Seniors Helping Seniors business was deeply personal, having seen his father pass away from Cardiovascular Dementia and Lewy Body Dementia. Witnessing the dedication of his caregivers left a profound impact. He admired their passion but also recognised the immense pressure they were under, often told to leave mid service to rush elsewhere.<\/p>\n The Seniors Helping Seniors care model resonated with Vittorio because it emphasises compassionate, friendly care \u2013 something he felt his father had missed.<\/p>\n This business allows Vittorio to provide high-quality, personalised care to the elderly, fostering a sense of community and connection, this endeavour brings immense satisfaction and a spiritual connection to his father\u2019s memory.<\/p>\n Vittorio\u2019s life experiences\u2014from his humble beginnings and strong family ties to his extensive career in public service \u2013 have shaped him into a positive and community-oriented individual. Through Seniors Helping Seniors Medway, he aims to give back and make a significant impact on the lives of the elderly in his community, honouring his father\u2019s legacy and fulfilling his own calling to serve. Plus, it gives him a break from the emotional rollercoaster of supporting Everton FC!<\/p>\n Vittorio helps to run a local Pool club which is frequented by families and elderly. He says \u201cI love playing pool! I also run and compete in marathons. I go to the gym, do yoga and pilates and I love reading crime\/psychological thrillers.\u201d<\/p>\n Finally, we recommend asking Vittorio about his experiences at\u00a0Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s funeral and King Charles II\u2019s coronation. Representing the nation at those times was a feeling he will never forget. Other high-profile events he attended was the Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s funeral and the wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales, the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan.Vittorio adds, \u201cHelping to manage protests in central London taught me humility and teamwork. I saw raw emotions up close while I was policing. Nothing has ever been too much trouble and the team have often gone above and beyond to ensure that Mum was comfortable in her own home for as long as possible.<\/p>\n They often shared lots of laughs and fun times as well as caring for her emotional and physical needs and it always left us reassured that she was in the best of hands.<\/p>\n They are a very flexible team and always willing to help out when additional support was required putting the needs of Mum first. A special thanks to Eileen and Simone who have been on the journey with Mum and become more than a companion to her, they have become good friends. The care from SHS has been outstanding. All the carers have been great with Mum, taking her for a drive, a cup of tea and a piece of cake when able which is her favourite thing to do.<\/p>\n We have received photo\u2019s of Mum from the carers of Mum while she is out and she always looks so happy. She can\u2019t wait to go with them! Teresa provided Mum with a photo book at Christmas \u2013 such a lovely thing to do and Mum treasures this. Tina has been great also \u2013 always there to help co-ordinate and offer support.<\/p>\n We really cannot fault the care received. We know Mum is in safe hands and Dad can have a rest while she is out. Highly recommended!
